The latest meeting of Radstock Town Council gave a lot of detail about important dates coming up in the town.

Councillors were also asked to get a list of all Radstock highway and road problems, with Cllr Bruce Stearn telling the meeting that he had struggled to get anyone to come from B&NES to see all the problems Radstock has. He told them : " I have been trying to get a Highways engineer here for all of the month of September, because of Covid and other things, that has not happened ...we really need to have someone here to see what Radstock needs.

" I am hopeful I will get someone here in October, so bring me your pressing highways issues and what you think needs to be done. We can then get some answers. "

Earlier in the meeting Radstock Town Council agreed to sponsor one of the local war graves, as Nub News reported on previously following an appeal by the Royal British Legion. That report on the appeal for sponsorship is HERE: with Radstock Town Council agreeing to fund a poppy wreath for fallen Radstock soldier Albert Veal

The Dressing the Graves ceremony will be the day before Remembrance Sunday on Saturday 13 November 2021 as follows:

10am – Writhlington

11am - Radstock

12pm – Clandown

Meantime councillors heard that the Big Local still has around £300,000 still unspent from the money it was awarded to help out local organisations and projects. The Mayor, Cllr Bevan wondered whether they might be able to take a lease on the Trinity Hall, where the Radstock Town Council was meeting which is currently under threat of being closed. You can read about that by clicking HERE : on what the future of the building might be

Writhlington will be getting a special Heritage Board paid for via the allocation of Community Infrastructure Levy funds in partnership with the Writhlington History and Writhlington Action Group.

Clr Nick Toogood told the meeting that the board was already agreed, and the site, but they were making absolutely sure that the wording and details on it were totally factually correct. The use of heritage boards around Radstock was welcomed by Cllr Gary Dando who said he was always pleased when he saw visitors stopping at the boards and learning more about the town.

Other important dates outlined to councillors were that this year there will be a seniors' Christmas party in Radstock on December 10, while the Christmas lights in the town will be switched on on November 27.

This coming Wednesday (September 23) the Radstock Hub will start new extended late opening hours, while also on Wednesday if you are interested in energy conservation the Town Council meets again at Trinity Hall at 7 pm when there will be debate about, among other things, sourcing heat from abandoned coal mines.

Finally, at the beginning of the meeting Radstock Nub News asked about whether a date has been set yet, or is known, for the demolition of the old Radco buildings to begin. Previously it was stated this would start in the 'autumn'.... but as one councillor joked it seems like this might more likely be a Christmas present. There is currently no update on when work will start, but a promise that Radstock Nub News will be told as soon as there is.
