The number of people using Peasedown St John Community Library has more than doubled in just one month!

In May, over 150 books were taken out by local residents, compared to just 74 books the month before.

Libraries, like other essential services, were allowed to stay open during lockdown ensuring that people have access to reading material and information.

Cllr Karen Walker is the Operations Manager at the Library. She said:

"For a small community library with just 700 books we're definitely punching above our weight!

As we come out of lockdown we've seen a huge increase and uptake in our services. In May, almost 100 residents popped in to see what the library has to offer.

This is incredible! Not only is reading enjoyable, but it's also good for our mental health too. It reduces stress, is therapeutic and keeps our brains active."

Peasedown St John Community Library is part of B&NES Council's network of community services and is run by the Peasedown Community Trust.

Trust Chairman, Gavin Heathcote, added:

"Peasedown Library is part of the Libraries West consortium, which means that if you take a book out from us you can return it to any library across the South West of England, and vice versa."

Peasedown Community Library is located at The Hive Community Centre (formerly the Youth Centre), Bath Road, Peasedown St John, BA2 8DH, and is open:

• Mondays: 11am – 3pm

• Wednesdays: 2pm – 4pm

• Saturdays: 10am – 1pm

The Library follows strict COVID-19 safety guidelines. When people visit the library they need to:

• Wear a mask when in the library.

• Sanitize their hands when entering the library, before touching any books and upon leaving.
