A church in Peasedown St John is continuing to provide support to children and their families throughout the pandemic. Two of their popular children's groups have re-started for members of the community to take part in.

St John's Anglican Church, based in Church Road, for many years has run both a successful pre-school initiative called 'SJ's Little Ones', and an After School Club for primary school aged children.

Sarah Carney, Children's Worker at St John's Church, said:

"It's great to be back up and running after the third lockdown. As a church we have continued to support the community throughout.

And now, with the re-introduction of our children's groups, we're providing children and their families with more opportunities to get out and about to meet new people.

Each group offers space for social interaction, play and a chance for parents to recharge and build friendships – something needed especially after the last year of lockdowns and social restrictions!"

SJs Little ones, for pre-school aged children, has re-opened with a booking system due to the need to allow adults to socially distance.

"Each week we run a baby group on a Monday morning where activities take place, like creating keep sakes, or having a baby first-aider visit us. On a Friday we run two groups for toddlers to pre-school age and during these sessions we have play, story, dancing and music time as well as a creative activity. We serve hot drinks and cake," added Sarah.

The After School Club has made the most of being outside! Held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the children have spent time taking part in scavenger hunts, parachute games, sports, creative activities.

"We have a lot of outside space at the church which we have made the most of. In July, we'll be organising a tea party for the older members of the church, who throughout the pandemic have been shielding," added Sarah.
