In his regular column the Radstock Mayor writes:

Lovely to be in Radstock whilst the sun shines with unaccustomed vigour, at least that is what it seemed like this Week-end. There is a sense of impending end of term; firstly, the gradual demise of the Corona Virus as we witness the return of shops, pubs and restaurants, the latter if only for alfresco servings.

Secondly, the Council Year ends next week with the AGM. Sadly this will still be on Zoom but anyone can tune by following the instructions printed on the Council website (www.radstock-tc.gov.uk). Whilst perusing the website, you may be interested to learn that the library is now open three days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12 pm to 4.pm.

A small consolation has been the appearance of the annual crop of ransoms or wild garlic. The tempting leaves cluster thickly in damp spots near the Wellow Brook and are the basis of an exciting pesto. You can mix it in with pasta or simply spread it on wholemeal bread. Don't delay picking for too long- the leaves quickly become stringy. Crush the leaves with olive oil and butter, adding salt and pepper. If you have pine nuts handy, all well and good. Some grated parmesan cheese for the final effect. Quite delicious and very garlicky, so abstain from meeting friends for a few hours!

Ah! The joy of cutting out the supermarket from the survival equation. What next? St Georges mushrooms beckon. Now there's a breakfast without parallel!
