Always smiling - that was the verdict of social media when it was revealed that Radstock FC chairman Simon Wilkinson has been voted as a unsung hero of the football league.

Well, we have this photo showing that Simon does not always smile.

However we agree that he is one of the most hard-working, respected and enthusiastic volunteers on the local football scene.

He also takes his job seriously especially when it came to ensuring that The Miners club house, up at Southfields, was renovated in time for what turned out to be NOT a re-opening.

But Simon continues to be resolutely positive about the future of the club which he has been involved with for years.

That dedication was acknowledged when he was awarded Tool Station Western League unsung hero.

Another fan posted : " Without question one of the most well respected volunteers in the league... not forgetting his cousin Dave. A visit to Radstock Town FC is one of the best away days you'll get in the League and wouldn't be the same without them."

Another post summed it up : "Well deserved award to one of the best guys involved in football. Well done sir, along with Dave and your band of merry men I know how hard and tirelessly you've all worked behind the scenes."
