The Vice-Chairwoman of Bath & North East Somerset Council is starting a new six-month tour of community projects this month, as part of an initiative to support rural communities around the local authority.

Cllr Karen Walker (Independent, Peasedown) was unanimously elected to the role in May by a cross-party group of councillors at Bath's Guildhall.

She said: "There are so many wonderful projects, initiatives and community-led examples of best practice happening right across Bath & North East Somerset. Most of which are run by volunteers who give up their time for free.

The council is keen to support those 'unsung heroes' right across the area, and we want to shine a light on the fantastic work they do."

Cllr Karen Walker will be visiting local charities, businesses, residents' associations, and schools – finding out more about how they're making a difference in the lives of others and what impact they're having in the local community.

"In reality, six months won't be long enough – but I'm determined to visit and support as many local initiatives as I can during that time," added Cllr Walker.
