Demonstration against gas plans near Welton Primary

Local children came out in force to protest at plans to build gas generators just metres from their local primary school.

The children at Welton Primary were joined later by Extinction Rebellion activists protesting at plans, already signed off on, to build a backup gas power station on land between the school and the Midsomer Enterprise Park.

Campaigners told Nub News that even though the plans were passed - during the coronavirus lockdown - they would not give up their fight.

" We are used to being told no," said one protestor from Extinction. " That just makes us more determined."

In June Abi Nimmo whose property in Burlington Road adjuncts the site told Nub News: " It is appalling such a decision was waived through without scrutiny, without consulting us, the local residents, without a committee decision. It's appalling that the Liberal Democrat's are blaming the Conservatives and vice versa meanwhile destruction ensues.

"All agree climate change is a grave problem, where decisions like this have to be managed very carefully, not blindly, and definitely not for short term financial gain."
