The local police station is reminding the public that there is an amnesty bin outside the station to drop off any knives.

As the campaign to get as many blades off the streets continues, the force is reminding the public that they just need to drop knives into the bin at any time.

The knife surrender bin at Radstock police station is open to all, and is always available. An officer at the station told Nub News : " Please help us take more knives off the local streets."

According to the latest figures, in the year ending March 2022, there were around 45,000 (selected) offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales (excluding Greater Manchester Police Force). This was 9% higher than in 2020/21 and 34% higher than in 2010/11.

During Operation Sceptre this year, the annual push to tackle knife crime, Avon and Somerset police force reported that since 2016 there have been over 4,000 knives and weapons surrendered through the existing bins.

The government will be considering changes to the law to tackle knife crime, following a nationwide consultation hosted by the Serious Violence Unit, As part of that review, there is a proposal to increase the maximum penalty to two years for anyone who imports, manufactures or sales or supplies knives to anyone under 18.
