The eagerly anticipated Wells Food Festival is back, providing another day of free foodie adventures for the whole family, on Sunday 8 October.

Set in the heart of Wells, the festival is set to be a jam-packed celebration of Somerset's artisan producers and rich food culture, and this includes several producers from Radstock and the surrounding area such as Yonder Brewing with their craft beers and lagers, inspired by a passion for three things: foraging, flavour and fermentation. And not forgetting four legged visitors, the specialist dog bakery in Radstock, Four Legged Fancies, will be attending with all sorts of natural, handmade goodies. There will be delicious breads and cakes from Lynda's Load and artisan pies from Dickies Pies.

Meanwhile, there is plenty more to explore at the festival including a new area dedicated to highlight current, food related social issues. The Food for Thought marquee will demonstrate what communities can achieve when they come together to tackle some of the challenges that face us through food poverty, food waste, high energy bills and family issues. Lots of charities and organisations are participating, including Root Connections, a community garden in Radstock situated next to the Dairy House which offers residential accommodation to the homeless and rough sleepers.

The team at Root Connections pack boxes of fruit and veg, along with bunches of home- grown flowers, for collection at the farm or free local delivery on Fridays. The money generated from these sales is then reinvested back into the project: "to support our residents living in community with us and to help bring an end to rural homelessness."

In the Food for Thought marquee you can find out more about growing produce yourself and maybe learn how to ferment vegetables. Investigate what a foodbank does, how to run a community fridge, who is feeding the homeless, and what you can do to help.

Other festival feature areas include the Charlie Bigham's Plate Spinning Championship, with a series of demonstrations, workshops and competitions for all ages and abilities. The top prize includes a dinner for two for a whole year on Charlie Bigham's.

The Celebrating English Wine marquee makes a welcome return, this time situated on the Palace Green. For younger festival visitors, the Children's Zone in the Recreation Ground will feature innovative street food stalls for smaller appetites and provide a host of fun foodie activities, along with the popular interactive Children's Trail. Meanwhile, the Fun Kitchen pop-up school will hold four cookery sessions of 45 minutes for children to take part and create vegetable-packed 'Oodles of Noodles' to take home.
