Scores of local families are being helped by the Radstock FOOD Club which is becoming ever more popular with its unique helping hand to those who most need it.

For a nominal fee, families with young children can join the scheme to buy food at a discount, thereby ensuring that they get the help needed, and are not simply taking handouts during a very vulnerable time.

Families with children under 11 years of age, living within 15 minutes of the club can buy £15 worth of food on offer for £3.50.

Over 70 families are now being helped with the scheme, with additional donations to those who are most in need.

The project, which only started in July, (although it was offering food support during the lockdown before that ) has been praised by the local Radstock Town Council and B&NES.

Cllr Nick Toogood said: " Great work everyone. I have been getting really good feedback from the local people once again thank you very much."

Megan Mehnert, who works with Family Action to manage the FOOD Club at the Children's Centre said: "The FOOD Clubs are making a huge difference to people's lives at what is a really challenging time. The quality and variety of produce we are able to offer is fantastic. We've recently put together recipe kits to encourage families to cook together, share skills, learn about healthy eating and nutrition and try new foods and these have gone down really well with club members."

The FOOD Club is one of three across Bath and North East Somerset funded by Family Action and located in Brightstart Children's Centres. Family Action originally developed the FOOD Club model in Manchester and now operates FOOD clubs in many parts of the country including the South West.
