Commuters who use the M4 are being warned that the motorway is currently closed in both directions between junction 17 for Chippenham and 18 for Bath.

It follows two serious accidents that happened earlier this morning and is causing giant queues across the nearby roads as vehicles look to find alternative routes.

The first crash was an overturned car, with the second involved three lorries.

Highways England say they expect the motorway to be closed for several hours.

Eastbound, traffic is queuing for five miles with it taking twenty minutes to get off the M4 at the A46 turn-off for Bath.
