Peasedown St John's Community Library has launched a recruitment campaign to sign-up more volunteers.

The library, which recently re-opened following an extended closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, is part of B&NES Council's network of community services.

In all the government's guidelines, irrespective of which Tier a particular area is in, libraries are deemed as essential services and thus are allowed to stay open.

Library Operations Manager, Cllr Karen Walker (Independent, Peasedown) said:

"I'm pleased that the government has recognised the crucial role that libraries play in our communities. Even under Tier 4 restrictions, we're able to offer a limited click-and-collect service.

Reading books is one of the best activities to do at home, especially during times of isolation and when social interaction with others is limited."

The Library is looking for new Volunteer Librarians who will help with sorting books, collecting books from visitors, and generally offering help to those who use the services. Full training will be given.

Peasedown Community Library is located at The Hive Community Centre (formerly the Youth Centre), Bath Road, Peasedown St John, BA2 8DH.

Opening days are Mondays, 12 pm – 2pm, and Saturdays, 10 am – 12 pm.

Peasedown Community Library is part of the Peasedown Community Trust, which runs several projects in the village. Trust Chairman, Gavin Heathcote, added:

"Peasedown Library is part of the Libraries West consortium, which means that if you take a book out from us you can return it to any library across the South West of England, and vice versa."

The Library follows strict COVID-19 safety guidelines. When people visit the library they need to:

  • Wear a mask when in the library.
  • Sanitize their hands when entering the library, before touching any books and upon leaving.
  • Either scan the QR code (on display in the Library) into the NHS Track and Trace App OR leave their details, manually, with one of our volunteers (for track and trace).
  • Place any returned books in the library quarantine box. They will stay there for 72 hours.
