Onwards and upwards : The Radstock Mayor in his latest column for Nub News

Cllr Rupert Bevan writes:

Today (August 16) was something of a red letter day.

For the first time since 23 March I was able to resume my musical duties in Bath. As Cantor at one of the City Centre Churches I happily sang my way through Gregorian Chant and a hymn setting by Monteverdi. The Organist, one of the most imaginative improvisers I've ever encountered, gave solemnity and meaning to the interstitial moments of the service. I came away with the feeling that, as C S Lewis might have put it, Aslan was on the move.

This impression has been in no way diminished by recent achievements in Radstock. An example of a cause for elation has been the help given last week to 24 families via Family Action and the Town Council. For a mere £3.50 people are invited to collect food and groceries to the value of £10-£15. The operation will be moving to the hub shortly and families who are feeling the inevitable Corona pinch can apply via the Radstock website: www.radstock-tc.gov.uk for further details.

Meanwhile the Monster Safari trail which encourages families to visit local shops and collect monsters via mobile telephones is to continue to the end of September.

Children may be interested in an initiative by Creativity Works to involve them in following a trail, They have been writing 'love letters' to Radstock and a selection of these will be on view round the town. Watch out for the Angel of Radstock who will make an appearance shortly!

That last piece of information sort of brings me round to where I started. Enjoy the rest of the holiday period and keep your eyes pealed on the website for further news.
