Midsomer-based Somer Valley FM, the local radio station for North East Somerset has teamed up with Bath College to transform the radio's stations grounds.

The Prince's Trust Team 1, based at Somer Valley Campus will be carrying out a four-week long community project, redeveloping the front and rear gardens at Somer Valley FM.

During this time they will plan what redevelopment jobs need doing, organise the resources to complete the project, as well as organise and take part in fundraising events to be able to buy the resources that are needed to complete the project.

Princes Trust team Leader Ben Perry said: "The Team programme is a 12 week personal development programme for young people aged 16-25, who may be low on confidence, have mental health related illness or are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).

"Whilst on the course the young people will gain new skills, take a qualification in Teamwork, Employability and Community Skills which is nationally recognised, meet new people and realise their individual potential in achieving great things in their lives."

The challenges throughout the 12 weeks include:

:Organising and completing agroup community project which makes a positive difference to the area.

:Taking part in an action-packed five day residential trip in Devon

:Getting two weeks' work experience in an area of interest

:Develop English and Maths skills.

Somer Valley FM's Station Manager, Richard Burgess, added: "I've been keen to develop our relationship with Bath College, and our local Somer Valley campus in particular.

"We have a fantastic educational resource on our doorstep; the huge variety of courses on offer throughout the year, gives everyone the opportunity to learn and re-skill.

"We have broadcast details on their virtual open days, apprenticeships on offer, and now the garden renovation project with the Prince's Trust Team is a great chance to strengthen our relationship, provide their team with a worthwhile project, and save me weeding come spring."
