Radstock council round up : A new councillor and the Walnut Buildings are now empty

At a busy Radstock Town Council meeting lots of local issues were discussed and a new councillor was elected.
Councillors heard that the Walnut Buildings up at Tynings are now empty, so there is now scope for the housing association Curo to make a decision on how the site could be developed.
Cllr Bruce Stearns gave his blunt assessment : " Knock 'em down, " he said at the meeting. " No matter how much you spend on them, they are a bad design. It is as simple as that."

In other news :
- There is a new councillor for the Clandown ward. Three candidates had put themselves up for contention. Elected was Adrian Dodgson who told the council meeting: " I very much appreciate the opportunity of being able to represent the ward. " Councillor Gary Dando said: " We have been very lucky to have had three people who would have all been very good councillors. Thank you all for putting yourselves forward."
- Councillors were told that the food club, which offers up heavily discounted food via a food bank system now has 44 members. If numbers go to more than 50 families, the council is considering opening up the scheme to another day. The weekly club is at the library- every Friday afternoon, 1.30pm-3.30pm. It costs £1 a year to join, is open to any local families who have a child aged 11 or under. For £3.50 they can buy groceries worth £15. Call Radstock 01225 396660 for more details.
- Ten love letters to Radstock can now be found around the town. The art trail was created by residents as part of a Creativity Works initiative earlier in the year.
- And the new council magazine The Wheel, will be dropping onto Radstock doorsteps from today (September 22).
