In planning news in and around Radstock this week:

In Radstock, Ryman Engineering Services, which is on the Frome Road, (under application 20/04840/FUL) has applied to build an industrial unit following demolition of existing industrial unit. The application includes a detailed heritage report because the site is located on the former siding area of Ludlows Colliery, sunk in 1782 and closed in 1954. This formed part of a wider group of coal mining pits around the Radstock area primarily owned by the Waldegrave family.

The site also served as a rail link connection serving both the coal mine and connecting to the main Great-Western network to the south of the site. This network is now redundant having been mostly removed in the 1970's although strips of the original track remain primarily at the front of the site.

The site was formerly going to be turned into ten homes. As revealed on the planning details : " The site had previously been granted planning permission through another applicant and agent

(17/05597/FUL) for the change of use of the site including the demolition of the existing industrial unit and erection of 10no. new dwellings with the dwellings proposed spread through the entire length of the site.

The residential application was approved however, the site has now been purchased by the applicant with the intent of retaining the industrial use."

Other local planning applications include:

An unusual application has been made for a change of use at 117 Redfield Road in Midsomer Norton. They have applied to change part of the ground floor from a handweaving loom place (Class E) into residential living accommodation. That is under 20/04888/FUL

On North Road at number 63, (BA3 2QE) they have applied for prior approval request for a single storey rear flat roof extension that would 1) extend beyond the rear wall of the original house by 7.75 metres 2) have a maximum height of 3.54 metres and 3) have eaves that are 2.52 metres high. You can view that under application 20/04900/HPD.

The owners of Channel House, on South Road, in Midsomer Norton, ( application 20/04912/FUL) have applied to alter roof lights and other minor internal alterations along with installing an external staircase.
