An increase in pupil numbers at two primary schools in the area has led to the appointment of new, additional staff to meet the demand.

Shoscombe Church School and St Julian's School in Wellow, which both come under the headship of Mrs Ruth Noall, have seen a rapid rise in student numbers and applications for the new academic year.

Their rural, country settings have proven to be popular with parents. Both include plenty of outdoor play opportunities, with mixed and varied curriculums.

Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: "The idea of a small, rural school in a peaceful setting has become increasingly popular for parents and children in recent years.

Children can often get lost in a large school, and too many pupils in one large building can feel overwhelming for a small child.

Since I was appointed Headteacher in both Wellow and Shoscombe two years ago, I've sought to develop a learning environment that is inclusive and open, whilst challenging at the same time. Our forest schools, interactive learning and expertise in Early Years play means we are always one step ahead. Thanks to the increase in pupil numbers over the last 12 months, we are delighted to appoint new staff to our teaching teams."

Harriett Ryder is joining Shoscombe School as an NQT and will be teaching Beech Class (year 3 and year 4). Prior to training to become a primary school teacher, Harriett was a deputy manager in a day nursery. She has spent all her university holidays working as a playworker at Fosseway School holiday club.

Rosie Williams is joining St Julian's Wellow as the Year 5 and Year 6 teacher in Sycamore Class. Rosie is in her 6th year of teaching and most recently was a Year 5 and 6 teacher at an outstanding international school in Dubai. She has a wealth of experiences to bring to St Julian's including leading English and RE. She is also a qualified Apple Teacher. Rosie will be leading English at St Julian's as well as leading our Eramus projects so as to ensure we continue to have excellent international links.

Isobel Mills is joining St Julian's Wellow in Year 3 and Year 4 (Beech Class). Isobel is in her 5th year of teaching and is moving to us from Paulton Junior School. Isobel brings with her experience of leading many subjects including computing and history. She will be teaching the large Y3/4 class alongside another class teacher each day allowing us to split the class into two smaller classes.
