Get fit in time for those summer holidays and help raise money for your local Community Trust at the same time. This is the aim of fitness instructor, Kay Alford, working with the Whisty Community Trust, Radstock, to raise money via her Fun Keep Fit classes.

Kay says, "In 2014 I took an Exercise to Music Instructor course as a personal challenge, qualifying the same year. I had the idea of offering to work in and donate proceeds to the local community."

The not-for-profit Monday evening Fun Keep Fit classes (19:00 – 21:00) are designed to benefit the local community by donating the full admission fee. The classes are suitable for those who wish to improve fitness and who enjoy exercising in smaller groups. The routines are easy to follow, offer scope for a full body workout and can be as challenging as each participant prefers.

"I encourage own level working, offering gentle as well as more demanding options and choices, enabling everyone to exercise at levels that suit best. I use a variety of inspiring music, from fiery Latin to traditional singalong. Different music every week. I have been known to throw in a few easy "Strictly" moves such as Salsa and Cha-Cha-Cha."

"We are a fabulous mix of all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities, and that's just the way we like it.

The proceeds from each Fun Keep Fit class held at the Whisty Community Centre are donated to the Whisty Community Trust to help maintain this valuable community asset. The charge is set by the Whisty Community Centre at just £3 per person per hour.

Kay is also a qualified Dance Fitness instructor and offers classes each Monday evening and Wednesday afternoon at Whisty.

She says, "These classes offer a fantastic opportunity for ladies who love to dance or would love to learn but may not have a partner or the confidence to go dancing alone. Classes are small and friendly, perfect for ladies who prefer smaller groups. You do not need a partner or any previous experience. No need to worry about coming on your own – new friends will give you a warm welcome.

"As with our Fun Keep fit classes, we are a fabulous mix of all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities, and we love it that way.

"Classes are low impact (no jumping around) but you'll still burn calories. We have many international dance styles. Salsa, Cha-Cha-Cha, Waltz, Bollywood, Charleston, Jive, Foxtrot and much more. Something for everyone. You need not have attended a dance class or a fitness class before. Even if you have never exercised or have not exercised for a long time this could work for you! Everyone works at their own levels to dance themselves fit and happy. The moves are easy to follow; no-one is left not knowing what to do. We walk through all the key steps before dancing to music. An instructor dances at the front of the class so that you can follow what she does.

"Why not come along to the Whisty Community Centre, Radstock, on Monday evenings (20:15 – 21:15) or Wednesday afternoons (13:30 – 14:30) to try for yourself?

"Exercise should be fun and our classes are all about just that, motivating you to achieve your goals in an enjoyable way.

"What's more, you will gain a skill for life at the cost of just £5 per hour. When the next "Strictly" arrives you will be able to use your new moves to dance along with the stars while improving fitness, toning, posture, core strength, confidence and general wellbeing.

"Dancing can also be a very effective way to control weight, especially if you've tried other forms of exercise and not found them interesting enough to keep going.

"This is a wonderful way to get fit, stay fit and meet new friends.

"Places are limited to ensure everyone has plenty of space to enjoy the tuition and their dancing.

"Come and dance yourself fit and happy. Come and put the FABULOUS into your fitness. We would love to include you in our Dance Fitness family.

"We preserve the size of all our Fun Keep Fit and Dance Fitness classes, which enables us to guarantee an excellent level of personal attention."

Kay welcomes enquiries and invites people to contact her before a first class, on 01761 435383 [email protected] Facebook @KayAlford.
