A popular rural school near Radstock is giving pupils a strong voice.

St Julian's School in Wellow appoints Pupil Voice Teams each year which gives children the opportunity to help contribute to the decision-making processes within the school.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: "Whether it is the environment, access to library books and learning opportunities, or animal welfare – children are interested in what happens in their school.

" For many years we've encouraged our pupils to get involved with the decisions that impact their day-to-day experiences in the classroom."

At the start of each new academic year, the school elects representatives from each year group to serve in the Pupil Voice, Ethos & Equality and Wellbeing Teams.

"We have three teams of children who work on their own set of aims and objectives throughout the year, representing the school body, reaching out to local communities and charities and helping to make our school a happy place to be," added Ruth.

Congratulations to all those pupils who have been elected for the 2020/21 academic year:

Pupil Voice: Madeleine, Emilia, Sennen, Jack, Enya, Cerys, Cody and Lily.

Ethos and Equality Team: Jemima, Charlie, Jacob, Rachael, Amariah, Eden, Amaya, Fran, Flora, Elsie, Rufus M, Freddie K, and Tacita.

Well-Being Team: Eloise, Thandie, Emilia C, Charlotte, George W, Jessie, Tilly B, Kasey, and Tom T.

Over the years, the pupil teams have been responsible for organising a cake sale to raise funds for the Australian bush fires, organising a House talent show, coordinating a whole school colouring competition, raising funds for Children in Need and the Julian House Homeless Shelter in Bath.
