A carer's meet up in Westfield has won critical funding to increase the social cafe to twice a month.

Loneliness and isolation is a major issue faced by many carers. Caring for someone you love can be emotionally and physically draining and many carers feel unable to ask for help which is why the Carers' Centre is launching more carer cafés in Bath & North East Somerset.

Thanks to new funding from The National Lottery Foundation and People's Postcode Trust, the Carers' Centre is opening a second café at Mardon's Social Club.

The second meet up will be this coming Wednesday, January 29, from 2pm to 3.30pm and will continue to be on the last Wednesday of every month.

The charity started a the cafe with a 10am to noon on the first Monday of the month. As the morning café has proved so popular, an afternoon one has been set up for the last Wednesday of every month.

A spokesperson from Mardons said: " As a community facility our aims are to provide the best offering for those living around us, not just through our own day to day business, but in supporting other valued community-centred ventures whenever possible.

These days, most of us know at least someone who is in a caring role and with more and more people finding themselves looking after family members and friends we should all be aware of the strain it can have on them. By offering Mardons Social Club for regular Carers' Cafes we hope we are helping to make them accessible to all and perfectly placed to reach out and welcome carers of all ages in a more informal and relaxed way."

Chief Executive David Trumper said: "Carers at our café in Mardon's have said the café is their lifeline and is the only break they feel able to take from their caring responsibilities. We are delighted we can expand our support to more carers in the BANES area."

Anyone who is a carer is welcome to drop in to a café and learn more about what the Carers' Centre has to offer. For more information phone 0800 388 885 or push the red button below for more information.
