A level playing field for Radstock footballing girls

In what is a first for the area, the girl footballing squad training - otherwise know as Wildcats - is opening soon.

The sessions will also have a footballer from Bristol City helping the coaching.

A few teams do small amounts of girls training but organisers will be providing all girls aged 5-11 with their own Development Centre - just like the one they run for the boys.

The sessions will be starting in April at Paulton Rovers FC on either a Wednesday or Friday, depending on availability.

Girls aged 5-11 will be able to join (school years 1-6) all they will need is some enthusiasm.

There is no doubt that women's football is growing in popularity for spectators. The viewing figures for the Women's World Cup hit 1.12 billion.

But the sport needs grassroots players to feed into the bigger, mainly cities, which have their own female footballing squads. That said nearby Frome Women have a strong team who are doing well in the league.

Organiser Josh Hurst said: "At Paulton Rovers we would like to increase opportunities and pathways for all local footballers, girls and boys, with our new wildcats centre opening we are now hoping to increase female participation in football and offer the girls the same UEFA quality coaching sessions that the boys at Paulton receive."

Anyone who is interested in joining the Paulton Wildcat session will need to contact Josh Hurst to register an interest on 07791515574 or [email protected]
