Patricia and Dennis Herbert have been at the reins of the Friends of Radstock Museum for the past six years

It was another successful fundraiser at Radstock Museum on Saturday, with proceeds expected, again, to exceed £1000. But with money still to be counted 82 year old Patricia Herbert and her husband Dennis who is 83, are thinking its time for some younger volunteers to come forward to organise this important event. Patricia said: " The Christmas event is always our most successful fundraiser. It is so important for the Museum it raises more money at the one time than any other. But we are both thinking we are getting on a bit and would love it if some others came forward to help. " Patricia has been organising the Museum's Christmas splash in Radstock for the past six years with one record year raising almost two thousand pounds for the Museum. The Museum, which has thousands of artefacts many donated by local people, re opens in February although the shop will be open for the next two Saturdays for those last minute Christmas presents and for anyone who hasn't yet picked up their raffle prize.

Radstock streets are still in the dark when it comes to Christmas lights

The relative lateness of Christmas light switch on in Radstock has been broadly welcomed by residents. The lights will be switched on this coming Saturday (December 7), but some residents did question if this is a little late? Westfield turned on their lights a week ago, as did Frome. In London, the famous Regent Street Christmas light switch-on was back on November 14. While some people on the main community noticeboard said the town looked a bit dreary, many comments on social media supported the idea of not having lights on until it was closer to Christmas. One said it made sense financially, another that they didn't want to see lights earlier than this weekend. One resident said the whole discussion was a waste of time - They wrote: " Really??? Christmas lights??? Does it really matter when they go on, I haven't even noticed. I have a life. " The council did not return requests for a comment.

Canny businesswoman Emma Mannings is about to open the doors on her new business in Radstock, a welcome boost for the town. She will be selling hemp products right in the heart of Radstock. The clue is in the name, Hempty, with the catchy marketing pun, ' Why run on empty when you can run on Hempty? 'The shop, the first venture of this 47 year old entrepreneur sells organic, vegan and sustainable hemp toiletries. Emma got involved in the alternative world because her children were ill. She explained: " I have three daughters and two have had ME and one with Lyme disease, so I got into alternative treatments. " After working local markets Emma realised that there was a big untapped potential for hemp and cbd along with essential oils and natural products. So now she will have a shop on Fortescue Road opposite the Co-op. Emma said: " I liked the friendliness of the other shop owners and it's a busy vibe."
